As a therapist, clients often ask how I can boost my self-esteem. Based on my years of practice as a psychotherapist and years of research, I have come to realize that there is not a one-time recipe for boosting self-esteem; instead, various steps that can be taken can help over time with boosting one’s self-esteem. Here are some ways to boost self-esteem:
Practice self-care: Take care of yourself physically by eating healthily, getting enough sleep, and exercising regularly. This can help you feel better about yourself.
Surround yourself with positive people: Spend time with people who encourage and support you rather than those who bring you down.
Celebrate your achievements: Acknowledge your accomplishments, no matter how small they may be, and give yourself credit for your hard work and effort.
Challenge negative self-talk: Reframe negative thoughts and replace them with positive affirmations. Practice positive self-talk to boost your self-esteem.
Set achievable goals: Setting realistic goals and working towards them can boost your confidence and sense of accomplishment.
Do things that make you feel good: Engage in activities that bring you joy and satisfaction. This could be anything from hobbies, volunteering, or spending time in nature.
Learn new skills: Learning new things can be empowering and boost your self-esteem. Consider taking a class, learning a new language, or trying a new hobby.
Remember that self-esteem is built over time, and it takes effort and commitment to improve it. Be patient with yourself and focus on the positive changes you are making.
